BREAST WELLNESS - BUKUMBI HOSPITAL, AFRICA
SHARING KNOWLEDGE ACROSS CONTINENTS!
I had the privilege of leading a virtual teaching session with nurses at Bukumbi Hospital in Tanzania — building capacity for the Ub3e initiative “If You Feel Something, Say Something” Breast Triage Program.
This initiative equips frontline nurses to identify high-risk breast lesions early and fast-track women to diagnostic and treatment pathways — a critical step in regions where most still present with stage III or IV disease. This will result in earlier detection of breast cancer, which in turn will improve survival by prioritizing the women with suspicious lesions to access medical care. This is important due to limited resources, not only financial but also in terms of medical personnel and medical specialties.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer affecting women globally, with a disproportionate burden in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, where late diagnosis is far too common. But late detection is not destiny. Education changes outcomes. Collaboration makes impact scalable.
Grateful for the dedicated nursing team whose passion and commitment are transforming care — one nurse, one woman, one life at a time!
